Stanford Brown has always focused on professionally investing, growing and protecting client wealth for the long term. We do that through the expertise of our Private Wealth Advisers, our specialist Investment Office and our Investment Committee of External Advisers.

We are delighted to welcome Nick Ryder as our new Chief Investment Officer. Nick succeeds Ashley Owen, who will transition responsibilities until 1 April 2023, after which he will remain a member of our Investment Committee.

Nick will lead our Investment Office and work closely with our Private Wealth and External Advisers to achieve client investment objectives. Client portfolios will benefit from his significant and hands-on experience across asset classes, including domestic and global equities, fixed income and Nick’s particular expertise in alternatives and private assets.

During the extensive recruitment process, we were drawn to Nick’s deep and broad experience built over 30+ years in the investment management and financial services industries. After an early career in corporate finance and hedge fund investing, from 2003-2009, Nick held alternative investment director roles at Citigroup and NAB where he developed and distributed alternatives investment products, as well as made direct and third-party fund investments. Since 2009 he has been a senior investment strategist at Commonwealth Bank, JBWere and NAB. In those roles he had a comprehensive range of investment responsibilities, including strategic and tactical asset allocation, macroeconomic analysis, multi-asset portfolio construction, investment and fund manager selection and investor communications.

Nick takes the reins from Ashley Owen, our CIO since 2016. Since joining Stanford Brown, Ashley’s impact on our investment capability can’t be understated – he has added significant strategic depth to our investment selection and portfolios, grounded in thorough analysis and with an unrivalled perspective on economic history. Ashley’s insights have been highly valued by clients and advisers alike and we’re pleased that he will continue as a member of our Investment Committee. Above all, his and Nick’s combined skills and experience will ensure a seamless, strategic transition for clients.

Stanford Brown’s Investment Committee comprises the following investment professionals:
